Is it true that there is a new satellite TV system that doesn’t need a satellite dish? ~

Could this be true? My apartment faces the wrong side of the world according to the installer guy that tried to install Dish. A friend of mine said they are soon to have satellite TV that doesn’t need a dish. I live in Canada not in the US–I’m sure that may make a difference. But I only want to watch American TV channels.
